Waterproof New Building Concrete Foundations and Walls – Macau, 2013-2014
When a major entertainment group decided to invest 16 billion dollars to double the size of their Macau Integrated Resort, they faced many challenges that come with constructing their buildings so close to the ocean. They needed to find a waterproofing solution that could protect the concrete foundations and walls from water ingress. They selected SPI’s Polyshield HT 100F polyurea, based on its many years of success in the waterproofing industry.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION & SPI PRODUCT:
The new concrete was cured for 28 days prior to the application of the primer. Once cured, the concrete was prepared according to industry standards.
To seal the concrete limiting pinholes, the applicator used a local expoxy primer that was more suitable to the high humidity in Macau, and tested compatible with Polyshield HT 100F.
SPI’s Polyshield HT 100F was spray applied over the prepared concrete surfaces. It is a fast-set polyurea that exhibits high elongation for crack bridging. It moves with the expanding and contracting substrate, and won’t crack to allow water intrusion.
